Since iOS 8, it’s easier to organise photos and videos, thanks to the possibility to create both “Folders” and “Albums” in the Photos app:
Folders:
can contain albums and other folders
cannot contain pictures or videos
- are recognisable by their 4 thumbnails (2x2 square)
Albums:
- can only contain pictures or videos
- cannot contain folders or other albums
- only show 1 thumbnail (key photo)
To create a Folder at the same level as the built-in albums:
- Access the “Albums” view
- Long press on the “+” sign in the top left corner
- Tap on “New Folder”
- Give the new folder a name
- Tap on “Save”
To create a folder or album inside an existing folder:
- Open the existing folder
- Tap on “Edit” (top right corner)
- Long press on the “+” sign in the top left corner
- Tap on either “New Album” or “New Folder”
- Give it a name then tap on “Save”
If you don’t know where to start, I’d recommend to
- create a folder for each year (2017, 2016, …)
- create dedicated albums inside each of those folders
If you’re using your iPhone professionally, then another approach would be to create two folders:
- Private
- Professional
And inside, you’re then free to create albums and/or sub-folders too.
